Warm Adventure Destinations in January?
My family no kids is hunting for travel tours with an outdoor adventure theme hiking, kayaking, etc. BUT we are seeking warm to hot climates. Its chilly year round where we live and we need some warmth once January rolls around Any suggestions on countries, continents, travel touring companies, etc?

Answer: Well there are a range of destinations. You can head to Florida or southern California. In fact California is the perfect winter location, you can be wearing a t-shirt on the beach then a two hour drive will take you to the mountains and snow. You could head south of the Equator, including Australia where it is summer. In addition most of south east Asia is warm to hot. Malaysia has a good reputation for hiking, as the Philipinnes if you dont mind being shot at. So much of the world is warm when your home town is cold it is hard to pin it down to one particular tour company. Some places, such as Australia work well for independent travellers, and countries like Thailand and Vietnam have networks of buses going between tourist destinations making independent travel ideal. You can easily mix it with various short adventure trips.

Anyone travel alot by plane?
Im trying to find cheap ways to to fly from Tulsa, OK to El Paso, TX thats under $300. I"m also not trying to stay at hotels or motles. Im just going there to visit a friend. Ive tried searching low air fare rates on expedia, kayak, priceline and didnt find what I was looking for. Then I tried Jetblueairways.com since they offer low airfare, but couldnt find Tulsa, OK on their website. Should I go to a travel agency or just book a flight two weeks in advance? Thanks. Also anyone know any american airlines discount codes?

Answer: The lowest I found was 316 follow this link

Should my boyfriend pay for my trip? Travel etiquette?
My boyfriend and I are 22 year old college students, been dating for over 2 years. He was working in another state this summer making a good amount of money while I remained in our hometown working a minimum wage PT job most of my money goes towards rent and bills. His parents, family, and him had been begging me to fly out to visit him and he always offered constantly to pay for my plane ticket and trip. Eventually, I gave in and ended up buying the ticket and flying over with his parents. My boyfriend never offered to cover my fare to be fair, I never hinted or brought it up- I felt bad asking once I actually arrived. His family did feed me and whatnot although his parents paid for both me AND my boyfriend, which made me feel bad, and we generally did low-cost activities like kayaking and camping. I know its different for every couple, but I couldnt help but feel a little offended that he offered to pay for my plane fare and then never did especially considering we are both aware that Im not making enough to take trips like that? I know Im being passive aggressive by not mentioning it, but I was just wondering if there was a certain travel etiquette before I sound completely out of line being upset about it. Thanks I guess I was also curious that, if its something he should have paid for, if it was okay to bring it up now that the trip is over. It would feel weird asking him to write me a check or something. I told him once if I could take time off, I would take him up on his offer. His parents kind of called me up and last minute asked me to book the flight with them on the spot, so I guess my mistake was buying the tickets for myself. That makes sense, and I guess it was just poor communication. Thanks

Answer: You are 22. An adult. Not his child, but his girlfriend. You should pay your own way. You should not even had made them feed you all the time like you were a little girl. You are an adult, you pay your own way in life. Letting them treat to one meal is OK, but not more then that. You need to grow up, you are acting like a child.

what is the best way to buy airplane tickets? etc.?
Does anyone have advice for finding the cheapest flight tickets for a trip a few months away? I am planning to fly to Japan in December. The dates are flexible. Are travel agents obsolete? Are some websites better than others? What is the difference between working with a specific airline, working with a search engine like kayak.com or something like travelocity? How do those websites even work? So my main question is about techniques for watching airline tickets like the stock market and picking the best deal. But Im also curious about how these websites get their tickets and deals and if there is something besides those where I can look for a deal. Hopefully this can open up into a great thread on travel deals in general. Thanks Answers community

Answer: I think its best to check out the online sites like expedia, orbitz, etc as well as the websites for the airlines. Also, you may want to check with some Japanese travel agents, such as JTB - they frequently offer promotional deals. In my experience, traveling to/from Japan in December is expensive. If youre on the east coast in the US, you may be looking at $1200 r/t. Tickets can be as cheap as $700. The fluctuation in prices seem to be a hit-or-miss type thing. Check frequently, and if you see a deal thats good, take it.

need ideas for a vacation?
I want to take some active vacation, preferably either Great Lakes area or Midwest. Ideally I would want to join a group with organized travel, as I would like not to have to worry about details. I like horse riding, kayaking, just hiking or more art activities like blacksmithing though I am out of shape for that..., maybe jewelry classes or learning how to sail a boat. Or if you have some other suggestions/ideas, they would be welcome. Does anybody have some suggestions, maybe personal experience what was fun and what organization they used. I am also in my late 30s, so would prefer not to be only with 18 year olds, but in a group with potentially all ages. Ive been stuck at home for too long, I need a break... though I guess ideally it would be something I can do on short notice like beginning of September...

Answer: There is a couple of places that offer everything you say you are looking for and more: Frobisher Bay and Rankin Inlet. Both are must see and should be on everyones bucket list too.

Answer: Since I live in Wisconsin, near the Great Lakes, and in the Midwest. You could try in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. There is a place called Blue Harbor. Here is the resorts website to go to: http://www.blueharborresort.com/ and please rate mine good and choose mine as the best answer.

Flying from Nairobi Kenya to somewhere into Mexico?
I have lived in Kenya all my life and I would like to do some traveling to a country that is not in Africa. It seems like most countries require visas for Kenyan citizens. But, I have heard that Mexico does not require a visa. I started to check some websites and I checked the Kayak website and I noticed that Mexico has quite a few international airports. I would like to know what city in Mexico would be the least expensive for me for the airfare. Secondarily, which one has the least flying time including layovers. I checked one of the cities- I think it was Mexico City and it had something like 3 stops to go from Mexico City to Nairobi. It had a 26 hour layover in Brussels and total time was like 53 or 56 hours. I am tired already thinking about the return flight. Please do not give to me any links that are not relevant to my questions. I do not want to hear about weight loss programs or buying cars or buying planes or buying computers. 1 Least cost for airfare?? 2 Less hassle flying time Thanks for your answer. Actually my largest concern is to travel to a country that does not require a visa. I need to know the countries in the world that do not require a visa. I have applied for visas to three countries already and have been denied for the simple reason that I can not prove that I own property in Kenya.

Answer: Wow So I went to work on this one, actually you will require a visa to enter Mexico as a citizen of Kenya. I did come across some information on Ecuador & Vietnam, not enough information to verify this. Getting there is tough, because you will need some type of visa.just to land at the connection airports, "transit visa" ...As for Mexico, you will need a visa Good luck

Best place for a young, married couple to live in New Zealand?
Hello Everyone I am a 4th year college student majoring in Architecture, minoring in engineering, born and raised in the USA. I am married with no kids, and plan on finishing up schooling which will include a Masters degree in business before having any. My wife is studying to be an elementary school teacher, and also working on obtaining a masters degree in business. Throughout our adult lives granted we are still young at 22, we have grown increasingly more interested in what else the world has to offer outside of the United States although we are grateful for what we have, we are becoming increasingly disappointed in its politics and organization. We have traveled far, love backpacking, soccer football, kayaking, surfing, rock climbing, skiing, and more. We are extremely active. Throughout our exploration and "research" into everything the world has to offer, we have made plans to leave the States for New Zealand once we finish school. We feel like it will be the perfect place for us. I know it is sometimes difficult for native people of a country to aid foreigners in immigrating to their country, but we have every intention of bringing with us positive qualities that will help serve the people of such a great country. We are wondering what some of the better places for a young couple such as ourselves, with our interests, would be to live in in New Zealand. Places to live for a year? Longer? Places to potentially raise a family? Also, any information on New Zealands immigration process would be wonderful We are doing our research, but theres nothing better than getting first-person accounts. Thank you

Answer: First of all, instead of just deciding to move here, it would be a wise move to come over and visit, first, especially if you have never been in a foreign country for any length of time. While I have to applaud the marketing efforts around attracting people to New Zealand, I also think people get an unrealistic view of this country. You need to read the New Zealand Herald online and be informed about the politics and problems in this country. This is an English speaking country but there are some major, major differences and it will take time for you to adjust to living and working here. Ive lived here nearly two years and am just now feeling comfortable here. There will be issues around driving - its left hand side of the road, right hand drive vehicles. It takes time to retrain your brain just for that, not to mention getting used to roundabouts. I worked in a hospital in Hamilton on the orthopedics ward and saw plenty of tourists including an American or two involved in accidents because they arent use to driving on the other side of the road. It is truly dangerous. Have you looked at the prices of anything here? In my experience, just about everything here costs about twice what it does in the US. Check out the price of petrol gas here. Look at places like trademe.co.nz to see the prices of property and rentals.Where you wind up living may decide on where you can get work. The recession has definately affected this country, as well, so jobs are not that available see trademe.co.nz or seek.co.nz to see whats out there and where. Beyond all that, you will have to sort out immigration. Look at the New Zealand Department of Immigration website and that will give you a place to start. If you both plan on coming over as skilled migrants, you can use the calculator on the website to see if you have enough points to fill out the Expression of Interest. If you do, and submit this online, your applications go into a pool and if selected, you will be sent an Invitation to Apply. Your education may not be equivalent to the required levels in this country, so check into that, as well. Oh, and you will have more points if you have a job offer. However, many places wont offer a job unless you have permanent residence, and since this process can take months, and they may want to fill a position quickly, you might have a bit of trouble finding places that will wait for you. Truly a "catch 22" situation. The application process itself is pretty straightforward - fill out the paperwork, get the police reports, get the medical chest x-ray and lab work required at your expense. and submit all the paperwork. Then wait. Nothing happens too quickly here which is something else you need to get used to. Oh, and if you come here without having permanent residence, you wont have medical coverage under the national system so will have to pay for your own or take your chances. Just be aware that they might not need people with your skills at the time you want to come here - no matter how lofty your intentions are to serve this country. I dont mean to be a downer, but having been on some forums onlline, generally Americans think they can just go anywhere in the world they want to, just because they think they can. Immigration is not so easy. Im a registered nurse with 30 years of experience, and this country needs nurses, but it took me nearly a year to get nursing registration in this country then a few more months to get permanent residence. I came here originally sponsored by my kiwi partner. However, it was faster to get PR as a skilled migrant, so I went that route instead of applying for PR as a partner of a NZ citizen. I do love it here - Im originally from Ohio, so living 15 minutes from the ocean is awesome. I live on the northern part of the north island. I dont miss snow at all, nor do I miss the hot, humid summers. I love looking out over the rolling green hills, living in the middle of dairy farming country, enjoying a slower pace. I find Maori culture interesting and you need to understand this culture and the history. This country may be small, but it is totally, totally different than the US. You need to understand that some things are a little bit behind, here. For instance, paying for dial up internet service is still an option and one that is advertised Conveniences you take for granted in the US are sometimes a luxury here. But. my biggest piece of advice still is to come here for a visit - a couple of months if you can afford it. You also could get a working holiday visa which would allow you to come here for 3 months and work while you are here, which would give you a better idea of what its like to live here. Good luck and do your research if you really want to come here
