Found an injured bird...now what?
About ten minutes ago my son told me there was a bird in the house. Thought it flew in and I was going to have to chase it out; instead I found it crumpled in the hallway trying to escape my four cats. Shooed the cats away and it just collapsed. I thought it was dead but I tried to pick it up with my shirt and it hopped away. Clearly, it cant fly - one wing looks messed up. Luckily I got it to hop into my cat carrier. Its upstairs now in a quiet dark room because I heard birds can fly just from stress. But I really do not know jack about birds, I dont even know what kind it is. I think its a blue jay. I want to help it but what do I do? Its almost midnight here and were in a small town - theres no where to take it. Im hoping the Humane Society is open in the morning and if the poor bird is still alive I can run it there. In the mean time, do I try to feed it? Give it water? Or just leave it be? I really want this bird to have a chance. This is the second time this has happened to me by the way; two years ago I found a sick Pacific Loon on my porch and kept it overnight. The next day the Audubon Society I used to live in Portland Oregon took it in but it died. : Why does this always happen in the middle of the night when its not easy to get help? sigh I meant die from stress, not fly from stress. Teehee; Im stressed too. OK, now Im totally frustrated. The Humane Society is closed on Sunday. The Fish and Wildlife Office is as well. There is no emergency number for either except 911, and Im sure they would be thrilled to hear about my blue jay emergency. I dont think there is anyone around to help. : A happy ending I hope... Bird was still alive this morning; in fact looking more active. I called my vet and they gave me a number of a wildlife rehabber who turns out lives two streets away from me. We took it over and she already had one just like it blue jay so she put our little guy in a cage facing his and she says she will check him out later when hes less stressed and see what kind of injuries he has. Im going to keep checking on him. Im really hoping he makes it but he is in the best place for him now at least.

Answer: Call a local wildlife rehab..many work out of their homes so cannot be closed on a sunday: http://www.southeasternoutdoors.com/wildlife/rehabilitators/directory-us.html

how much is my historical John James Audubon 29 inches tall book worth?
The birds Of America, John James Audubon Published by the Author 1827 - 38 copyright 1973 - 1972 672 - 656 plates printed The royal society of london .....

Answer: Is it a first edition? Signed by the author, Audubon or anyone else? What is the condition of the book and cover? All these things are taken into account. I have one of those books, and frankly, decorators like to break them up, matt and frame them and sell them separately. Sometimes they are worth more like that. Life is funny; a thing is only worth what someone is willing to give you for it.

Do you live near the Gulf Coast and worry what can be done?
by the average person to ameliorate the Gulf Coast oil spill disaster and wish to find a way to help with others efforts to protect birds, wildlife, ocean life and habitat? I am legitimately polling to see how many people here would volunteer for such an effort if you were both financially and physically able to be there to do so? I wonder how many people from Yahoo Answers may live close enough to affected areas. I live in Arkansas, and many of the birds that frequent the nearby ponds, lakes and streams come up through the Gulf and the Louisiana flyway. BTW..here is a link to a Volunteer Survey from the National Audubon Society for this situation. http://www.audubonaction.org/site/Survey?ACTION_REQUIREDURI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&SURVEY_ID3400 Copied from the link above: A Couple of Notes About Volunteering Everyones help is needed but it is essential that our efforts are coordinated and everyone is given the best opportunity to help. Some activities are dangerous and require special training; oil and chemical can be toxic. Please avoid going to affected areas or handling wildlife until you are part of coordinated responses. Even well-intentioned people can inadvertently interfere with important recovery efforts. Please be patient as the massive operation to respond to this spill ramps up. Please enter your information below. Well put you in touch with state or federal agencies, Audubon leaders, volunteer organizations and others working to mitigate the impact of the oil spill. There are many things that can be done to help.

Answer: I currently live near the Louisiana-Mississippi boarder in the boot. If money was no issue I would have already been in line to help. I think Louisiana and the Gulf Coast has some of the most unique plants and animals there are. I think that if I had a way of helping get the oil out the water I would to. This is affecting not only Louisianas economy, which supplies about 30% of the nations seafood, but also that of every state that is part of the Gulf Coast. People are loosing their livelihoods. We need as many volunteers as we can get as quickly as we can get them to get this mess cleaned up before it totally destroys the environment and peoples livelihoods.

Is this an attack on our 2nd Amendment Rights?
I havent been to my favorite gun/sporting goods store in about a year. Once the gun grabbers got their man in office, I started stocking up on ammo. Depending on caliber and cost I stockpiled 6-12 months worth of ammo between 11/08 and 1/09. The only thing I didnt stockpile was 20 and 12 gauge 7.5, 8 and 9.Never a shortage of that stuff at WalMart Anyhow, I thought I was in the wrong place. This store was about 50% firearms, 25% fishing and 25% everything else. Now they are about 25% firearms, 25% fishing, 25% canoe, kayak, hiking, etc. They have books from the Audubon Society This 25% didnt really exist before here. Another new things is air and pellet rifles. Thank G_d no airsoft, but Daisy, Crosman, Gamo and Beeman. Lots of this stuff My friend behind the counter says the inventory reflects what sells. Half the guns are gone A big part of that is now air/pellet guns as well as tree hugger gear. I think this is a bad sign...

Answer: This store is probably trying to survive the best they can while competing with Wal-Mart. If being primarily a gun store wasnt working for them, they are trying to expand into being a more general wilderness store. I dont think the 2nd Amendment was involved at all, merely market forces. If you want to make sure they stay a gun store, start making all your gun, ammo and accessory purchases there vs. Wal-Mart. PS - To Teknoman Saber, your answer is incorrect. NRA tried to stop AB 962 in California. I got the alerts so I know. You can say they failed to stop the new ammo law, but its not correct to say they did nothing. And they are working with a state legislator to repeal it via a new bill.

What do you think of my Political Ideology? Is it good? Bad? Perfect? If I become President Long Question?
I think the perfect society would be about 95% Capitalist, 5% Socialist. Right now, I think the United States is about 65% Capitalism, 35% Socialist. Here it is. We would basically function as a Capitalism society, benefiting the whole. A decent tax rate would be applied for Roads and partly public schools, parks. But this would be a fixed tax rate, not progressive. Health Care would be Private Enterprise, Banks would be Private Enterprise, and small business owners would receive tax cuts. Health insurers would receive tax cuts to recruit more people. Schools would be privatized, as they would be competing for more students, education would be better, but there would be a very small public school system for people who could not afford it. Social Security would be privatized, Medicare and Medicaid disbanded. But elderly could receive some benefits, in fact, wouldnt pay taxes. The FCC, EPA, IRS, FDA, etc. These would be disbanded. FDA would be replaced with a nonprofit private organization and function as well as the ESRB Private Game rating board since their function is to do this, they could not be bribed. The IRS would be replaced with the NTA National Taxation Administration and would have less power, they could not take taxes out of bank accounts were people could not pay taxes. Taxes would not be completely forced, and auditing would be banned. People making under $40,000 would not be taxed at all, and everyone up would be taxed at a fixed rate of about %10-%15. FCC and EPA would be replaced with private charity, the EPA would be replaced by the Audubon society and not be funded by the government, but promoted by the government, the FCC would too. Military spending would be much lower than $650 billion, I would lower it to about $500-$525 Billion, because this is whats keeping us safe, but we dont need a gigantic military, just an advanced one. Unions would have NO lobbying power, and be discouraged, because of how abusive they are to business. But there would be a minimum wage, and business would be required to treat people well. Like today, without Unions. DEFINETLY not Teachers Unions, ACORN would not be funded. Marijuana would be legalized, so would Gay Marriage and Abortion, its a free country; its about time we act like it. The “Drug Wars” would end, although Cocaine/Meth, etc. would still be banned. But guns would have some of the same laws Cannot dis

Is environmentalism just an agenda? Do they really care? Do they do more harm than good?
From the Golden Gate Audubon Society site: Conservation Issues Every year, an estimated 75 to 110 Golden Eagles are killed by the wind turbines in the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area APWRA. Some lose their wings, others are decapitated, and still others are cut in half. The lethal turbines, numbering roughly 6,000, are arrayed across 50,000 acres of rolling hills in northeastern Alameda and southeastern Contra Costa counties. The APWRA, built in the 1980s, was one of the first wind energy sites in the U.S. At the time, no one knew how deadly the turbines could be for birds. Few would now deny, however, that Altamont Pass is probably the worst site ever chosen for a wind energy project. According to a 2004 California Energy Commission CEC report, as many as 380 Burrowing Owls also a state-designated species of special concern, 300 Red-tailed Hawks, and 333 American Kestrels are killed every year. In all, as many as 4,700 birds die annually as a result of the wind turbines. Pretty sad. To be fair, I will give them a plus by learning from this disaster and making changes to the systems. That is because they could. How many environmental issues are just exchanging one issue for another. Dana isnt intelligent enough to understand the larger picture here.
