How to build up credit?
Okay I am 18 and trying to get a credit card, but it seems impossible, my boyfriend has also been trying, but no matter what card we apply for we get declined, because of no credit history. Today i tried to get a student discover card, the card states that it is for building credit, but I was declined for insufficient credit history. I dont know what to do. Please dont say something like dont get one because me and my boyfriend have already decided how we would use it and are very cautious about going into debt. But its kind of important to build credit because we plan on getting a house sometime in the next year or two after he gets out of school and gets a job as a firefighter or paramedic. How should i go about getting a card? How is a way to get accepted?

Answer: First, take a break for more than a year. Part of the reason that they are denying you is that you are applying much too often. If you are only 18 and have applied at least twice in your life, you have applied too much. You should never apply until more than a year after the previous time. That means that the first time you apply in your life should not be until you are 18, then the second time should not be until more than a year after the first time, the third time should not be more than a year after the second time, etc. Second, none of the credit cards for which you are applying are secured, and none of them are available to anyone who has never had any credit card. You need to get a secured credit card first, build credit using the secured credit card second, and get a credit card that is not secured third, in that order. To get a credit card that is not secured, apply only after you have built your credit with the secured card and have gone more than a year without applying for any cards.

Who else believes that the Slave Trade can happen again?
Considering that blacks in the Western Hemisphere do not study nor know their history, they think "we have made it" and drive BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac. Slavery is happening now. McDonalds, Rent-A-Center, Arab, Hispanic, Indian owned inner-city "bodegas" have black slaves. Newport, Salem, Colt 45, Olde English 800, Pay Day Loans have black slaves. Wal-Mart does as well. The biggest black plantation holder in the U.S.A. is the Democratic Party. By the way I am black and a Republican.

Answer: Slavery is not exclusive to Blacks, though it is still practiced illegally in Africa. As far as I understand it, most of the outright slaves in the USA are now Asians and Hispanics imported illegally for this purpose; maybe they are more in the nature of indentured servants, but it is still slavery. The political Party of Slavery, the Democratic Party, which opposed equality in the South before and after the Civil War, has indeed adapted itself to keeping Blacks in dependency, but in ways that are legal at this time. As for a return of the "slave trade," it is done differently now. Instead of bringing the slaves to work, the work is more often taken to the slaves. I like Ike too.

Too many APs. Also, do GT classes look better on college applications than Honors classes?
Im aiming for Princeton as the university I want to go to. I hear that taking about 8 or 9 APs would impress. Im starting ninth grade and Ive pretty much planned out all my classes for the rest of high school and I wanted to know if Im taking too many APs. By the way GT means gifted and talented. Grade 9: Biology Honors English GT American Government GT Algebra 2 Honors Spanish 3 Honors Physical Education Guitar Grade 10: Chemistry GT English GT AP World History AP Computer Science A Geometry Honors Spanish 4 Honors Physical Education Grade 11: Physics GT AP English AP U.S. History AP Psychology Trig Honors AP Human Geography Tech Grade 12: AP Environmental Science Forensic Science GT AP English AP European History College Algebra Honors Health Semester One, EPI Semester Two AP American Government

Answer: We look at: - SAT or ACT scores - rigor of classes completed - this is where your IB, AP, Honors, and magnet or G&T classes really help - extracurricular activities [ECs] that support or enhance your major - if you are going to be a math or science major, Science Olympiad is a great enhancement - foreign language study - do all 4 years in the same language and make it a relevant one - Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Mandarin, or Portuguese - GPA somewhat - weve admitted students with 2.5 GPAs and not some with 3.90 Volunteer work that applies to your life, not just to fill in time - a student who was a candy-striper is great in our nursing program, but for the B-school or Engineering, so what? By all means have some backup schools. Princeton is highly competitive and only admits 10% of a very select group of applicants. When you are a junior and have your SAT or ACT scores, go to one of the free online college search services and see which schools are already admitting students with yr qualifications. Apply to at least three in addition to Princeton, and make sure that at least one is in your States public-supported system - finances have a way of messing up plans.

I have to read this really long and I think boring book?
Ok so I have to read this book The Kite Runner, but I want to read it in 1 day, getting up at 9 and stopping at around 10 pm. Do you think thats possible. The book is around 400 pages. The only problem is Im finding it harder to really even get into the book. Because the 2nd chapter deals with a lot of heavy history of Pakistan. Any tips on also how to read faster. Any help would be great, thanks

Answer: Trying to put myself in the characters shoes usually helps me read faster. Try to imagine yourself as them, think like them, try to learn as much as possible while reading, even if the book does turn out to be incredibly boring, just force yourself through it, its not that bad.

Is history repeating itself?
Im afraid that people are to blind to see the truth so apparent. Two point junkies can rot in hell. Have we learned anything? Not chatting, but amen, amen I say to you. I see your anwswer and see that its striking a cord, since we dont learn from history. Were sheep or sheeple... Cute answer of the first post, but I can see that your an idiot. Go away and let the adults answer the question.

Answer: We learned but we didnt take advantage of it, its happened many times before, thats why history repeats.

What do you think Local Hispanic community on edge after immigration raids?
Pastor Joel Menchacas voice rang through a small downtown Las Vegas church Thursday evening as he led a group of about 100 mostly Hispanic worshippers in song. “Te amo dios,” he sang, microphone in-hand, as the voices of those in the crowd joined him. Some swayed to the beat. Others raised their hands in praise as they sang along. “I love you, Lord,” came the next verse, in English. But Thursdays service wasnt a night of regular worship at Armistad Cristiana: It was a community vigil. A week earlier, an immigration sweep at Las Vegas-area bus terminals netted the arrests of more than two dozen suspected illegal immigrants by federal agents — arrests that have left the valleys Hispanic community shaken. “The reason were having the vigil is because a lot of people are afraid. They dont want to go out,” Menchaca said. “We want to let them know that there is hope in God. “He hasnt forgotten about us, and we are here to pray for all.” Menchaca was one of a half a dozen ministers from various valley congregations who addressed those gathered at the church at 901 Stewart Ave. Michael Flores, an activist with Las Vegas-based Progress NowNevada, was one of the events organizers. He said he wanted to help quell the worry that began to bubble after the arrests. “Were really trying to calm the situation down. A lot of people in the community are very panicked,” he said. “Were using the churches as a vessel to get the word out to be calm.” U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested 31 people on July 29 in sweeps at a Greyhound bus station, the Tufesa bus station, and the Los Angeles/El Paso Limousine Bus, said Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Kenneth Quillin. Twelve of those arrested had a prior criminal history, said Quillin, who is based in Yuma, Ariz. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/06/local-hispanic-community-edge-after-immigration-ra/

Answer: After reading the entire story I came away thinking the illegals do not want anybody arrested nor does the Church. As quoted “I know they have intelligence, but there needs to be accountability in agencies. They cant just do things because they want to,” Flores said. Flores who is in the country illegally is either using document fraud with fake or stolen documents to obtain work. Some how even Churches tend excuse any document fraud as part of what must be done to have a better life and they figure that God will just allow them to do this. Further how come these same Churches are not over in Mexico saying “We want to let them know that there is hope in God. “He hasnt forgotten about us, and we are here to pray for all.” It seems when all the Churches get involved in illegal immigration it seems God is only available in America, but how come they do not sit in Mexico with the same faith saying--- We want to let them know that there is hope in God. “He hasnt forgotten about us, and we are here to pray for all.” It seems these people have no problem that there was Twelve of those arrested had a prior criminal history and all there and including the Church felt the criminals should have been allowed to stay and get into the amnesty line.

Share Your Bloody Mary Story?
This story is all true. I am not making it up, and if you have a Bloody Mary story please tell a true one. Okay, so mine isnt that great of a story, which is why I want to hear yours At school one day in like 6th grade, me and a group of friends were bored so we decided to play Bloody Mary. It was a rainy day around 3, so it was kind of dark out. My best friend knew a way to hack into the school light system so she turned all the lights off in the bathroom. We covered the windows, and any holes where air could escape. Once nobody was in the bathroom, we sent one of my "brave" friends into the bathroom to say Bloody Mary 13 times. We sent her in by herself because he heard it only worked with one person About 3 minutes later she ran out screaming and with cuts and scars on her ankles and forehead. Once we comforted her and made her calm down, she begged us not to go play Bloody Mary ourselves. She may seem like a good friend right then, but she was always a liar. Nobody told her then, but we all hated her. Since no one said anything about how we hate her, she always stayed around us. When we were not around her, we all talked about what a liar she was. She stole, lied, and always wanted attention. That is why we figured she made the Bloody Mary story up and scratched herself. She always lied to get attention. So none of us today are even sure if the Bloody Mary legend is true. For years none of us have had the guts to play Bloody Mary again, since we heard a story about a girl in our state disappeared after playing Bloody Mary. We heard that Queen Mary took her back into her time and kept her. I know all about the history of Queen Mary, no need to explain anything I just want to hear your stories

Answer: TRUE STORY Okay so a anyways...Me and my friends were in the bathroom at school and no one was in there but us. We turned the lights off and looked in the mirror and said "Bloody Mary come out" A couple of times and then right after, I mean RIGHT AFTER we said that, The toilet flushed. I was like holy crap Then we looked in mirror and we saw a red glowy face in the mirror and piled up and ran out of the bathroom. IT WAS SCARY

How can I improve chapter 3 of my novel?
Chapter 3 - The Sound of Music When Aria woke up, she could hear the chime of bells from a nearby church. It was noon and she was hungry. She quickly brushed her teeth, tidied up her hair, got dressed, and dashed downstairs to the dining room. By the time she had finished and stepped out of the hotel, a carriage was already waiting outside for her. She took Johanns hand, which heaved her up onto the horse-drawn vehicle. The reins snapped and the horses trotted away. In the afternoon, Aria and Johann visited a variety of attractions in Vienna: the went to the Vienna State Opera House, visited the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Natural History as well as the Naturhistorisches Museum of Art History. They dined in a fancy restaurant, then took a stroll in the Stadtpark. "Aria, what is one thing you love?" asked Johann. "You never seem to smile. Are you troubled? Is everything all right?" "No ... I ... everything is fine," said Aria. "... Well, I do love music." "So do I" exclaimed Johann. "May I request you to sing me a song, Aria?" "Well, what would you like to hear?" "How about The Sound of Music? I bet youve seen the movie, right? Everyone has seen the movie" "Of course ... as you wish." The hills are alive with the sound of music With songs they have sung for a thousand years The hills fill my heart with the sound of music My heart wants to sing every song it hears My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over stones on its way To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray I go to the hills when my heart is lonely I know I will hear what Ive heard before My heart will be blessed with the sound of music And Ill sing once more "That was beautiful, Aria" Aria blushed - she had never been complimented on her singing. "... Johann ... do you sing?" "Well of course I sing Everyone sings Isnt that right? Now, what sond do you have in mind?" "Lets see ..." Aria looked around and noticed some flowers. "How about Edelweiss?" "One moment, please." Johann dashed back and disappeared in a flash, generating a small gale that caused Arias dress to dance in the wind. Before Aria completed the thought Where is he going and when will he be back? Johann dashed back with a guitar. He stopped himself just in time, or else he would have knocked Aria over. The young lady blushed again and took a few faces backward: if he or she had leaned forward a bit, they would have kissed. "Sorry about that. I dont like to be kept waiting so I dont like to keep others waiting." He pulled out his guitar and began to play and sing: Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me small and white, clean and bright, you look happy to meet me blossom of snow may you bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my home-land forever "Aria, why are you crying?" "That was ... even better than ... I think you should have auditioned to play the Captains part." Aria whiped her tears. She had never heard a man sing live, especially not in front of her alone. As the afternoon ended, Aria and Johann watched the sunset from a hill. "Say, Aria, where are you from and where are you going?" Aria explained what had happened and told him she wasnt sure where to go from here. "Would you like to travel to Italy? Ive heard that all roads lead to Rome." "Yes, I would like to visit Rome ... Will you ..." "Of course, Aria, I cant let a pretty girl like yourself wander about by herself, could I? Its a dangerous world out there. Who knows what kinds of people youll run into. I know you should never ask a woman her age, but how old are you, Aria?" "Im 16 years old." Johann You wait little girl On an empty stage For fate to turn the light on Your life little girl is an empty page that men will want to write on Aria To write on Johann You are 16 going on 17 Baby its time to think Better beware Be canny and careful Baby youre on the brink You are 16 going on 17 Fellows will fall in line Eager young lads And grueways and cads Will offer you fruit and wine Totally unprepared are you To face a world of men Timid and shy and scared are you Of things beyond your ken You need someone Older and wiser Telling you what to do I am 17 going on 18 Ill take care of you Aria I am 16 going on 17 I know that im naive Fellows I meet may tell me Im sweet And willingly I believe I am 16 goi

Answer: I think its written pretty well. You have small errors though; just typos or punctuation. In paragraph three, I think you meant to write, "they," but you wrote "the" by mistake. You also have a lot of "...". Other than that, I think youre set. I like it and the name Aria. ^_^ I see your Trowa Barton now, by the way. Im still banking on Duo Maxwell--DeathScythe

Do I even have a chance at the Ivy League anymore?
OK, so heres the deal. I am going to be a freshman this upcoming year. I am extremely bright, especially with English and history. I am confident that I can get a 4.0 unweighted GPA for all four years. But heres my question. My classes arent extremely rigorous. I am going to be in student council, FBLA, drama club, the musical and debate team. Also, I might be joining winter track. So, my clubs are second to none. But here are my classes Algebra 1A Algebra 1B Honors English Honors World History Earth Science Drama Gym Debate So, I am only going to have 3 credits of foreign language Latin by the end of high school, and most likely only 6 AP classes. Does that knock me off of the list right there?

Answer: Yes, but you have to get good grades, good SAT/ACT scoresvery crucial, almost the same weight as GPA, and be well rounded. There are tons of kids with over 1000 clubs and such and they get rejected. You want to know why? Its because these clubs are so generic that over thousands of kids have them. You need to join some stuff that suits your interests and make yourself unique. I say join a sports team you enjoy. Do some volunteering/Community Services. You should be good with extra-curriculars. Aim for at least 2200+ on your SATs. I mean its freshmen year, so take a breather. Just get that 4.0. But for Soph year, you better bring your A game and take 1 or 2 APs and more honors classes. I suggest AP Human Geography and AP world History. 2 of the easiest APs
