I get that they have their own country now, but I still dont get why they become so offended when called "chinese." Government system aside, they are still chinese by ethnicity no? For example.... North Koreans are completely different in terms of culture and government from South Koreans, but are still considered Koreans. So why is it that they so desire to be considered a different ethnicity? Goes more than that, Taiwanese people I have encountered HATE being called Chinese Republic of China implies that they are still "Chinese" no?
Answer: I would like to know also, becuase dont forget taiwans official name is the Republic of China ROCit is on the taiwanese passportand mainland chinas official name is the Peoples Republic of China PRC.on top of that its the same race, same languagemandarin, but there is of course a taiwanese dialect but mandarin is more spoken.Every province in China has its own dialect by the way and it did belong to the mainland before the rise of the communist regime.I think its really just a matter of pride wanting to be completely independant of China.

Why do many East Asian immigrants to US get English names while the other ethnicities tend not to?
You usually notice Chinese, Koreans, and Vietnamese people Japanese people keep their name though get English names when they come to the United States. Thats why you see people like John Wong, John Kim, and John Nguyen. But you dont see many other ethnicities do so; You dont usually see John al-Muhammad, John Patel, John Ivanov, John Wyzykowski, John Louvre, etc. Poles even keep their Polish Latin alphabet standard in their English names like Zbigniew Brzezinski. The names really arent quite hard to pronounce either, at least for Korean and Chinese. Maybe the Koreans and the Vietnamese feel ashamed because their names are just bastardizations of the Chinese naming convention, but I dont see why the Chinese would feel ashamed of their names. Why do these people tend to get English names more than other immigrants? Hard pronunciation? I think Polish is harder to pronounce than Korean, yet Poles almost always keep their names while Koreans almost always change it.
Answer: Because we Poles are proud of our names

What is a good makeup routine for school?
Hi so Im about to go into my 2nd year of highschool and Im wondering what kind of routine should be acceptable for school. My eyes are average size, almond shaped w/double eyelids. My ethnicity is chinese and I have a bit of wavy hair. I wanted to achieve the look of the girl on the right side: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurlhttp://photos.friendster.com/photos/80/42/49062408/1_350735901l.jpg&imgrefurlhttp://www.lautanindonesia.com/forum/index.php%3Ftopic%3D5655.0&usg__XDe0sbVy20G2tx4KgO7dCU67zT4&h540&w405&sz35&hlen&start41&tbnidSV46aOtY62JyDM:&tbnh135&tbnw104&prev/images%3Fq%3Dmei%2Bmei%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1C1RNCN_enUS320US321%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D892%26tbs%3Disch:10,800&um1&itbs1&iacthc&vpx958&vpy193&dur69&hovh259&hovw194&tx76&ty115&eieXpPTOPyNoK6sQP966G5Bw&page2&ndsp36&ved1t:429,r:12,s:41&biw1280&bih892 I want to stay away from foundation and face makeup, but a little bit is fine for me. I cant really work with lipgloss because my lips are pretty full :x You may also list your own makeup routine too and recommend affordable makeup thatll last all day ; since i have schools 10+hours x.X including sports :P -thank u
Answer: My makeup routine: Hard Candy Primer preps face and helps face makeup last all day Maybelline Dream Matte Powder evens out skin tone, kind of like foundation but not cakey Curl my lashes Prime eyelid with Loreal Decrease helps eyeshadow stay and not get clumpy during day Eyeshadow: wet n wild eggshell palette Mascara: benefit Bad Gal Lash Eye liner: Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eyeliner Blush: Maybelline Dream Mousse Lip Gloss/stick-depend on what I feel like on any given day. Everything I listed except mascara is from a drugstore, so its all relatively cheap. So considering what you said, I recommend you look into the blush I mentioned. Its a cream which is nice because it looks really dewey and fresh. It comes in a smallish container, so you can carry it with you if you need to apply more throughout the day. I would also recommend mascara if you dont wear it yet. Its one makeup product that can add a lot. I dont use any foundation because Ive got primer and my dream matte powder, so you could look into those if you want but you dont have to. And girl, if your lips are full, GO FOR THE GLOSS Big lips are so beautiful, so you can work a lot of colors. Its good to have a variety. I love wearing lipstick and then putting gloss over it. Colors you should look into are a dark pink or red, pale pink, and champagne with a little shimmer. Wet N Wild has 99 cent lipsticks, and if you get a clear gloss to go over it...nice. So yeah, hope it helps

Why are Muslims so hostile?
I have friends from all sorts of backgrounds and faiths. I am not racist at all, and I welcome other cultures totally. I have noticed that most Muslim people I meet are very cold and unfriendly towards me. However I do not have such problems with Christians, Hindus or Sikhs. The same goes for ethnicity. All the white, African-Carribean, Chinese and Indian people I know are very nice. But the Pakistani people I know are always very mean to me.
Answer: In the U.S. Muslims have become very defensive. They are afraid you might be regarding them as "terrorist".

Why do some people guess im a other ethnicity when Im oriental?
People thought i looked turkish, european, malay, thai, japanese, tanned caucasian, and thought i looked a bit mexican. after telling them i am neither of those races, they say chinese which is true and i telling im mixed east asian race then they say korean when they knew i wasnt japanese. why do people do that?? do people do that to you too?? @dont know- im from canada and ppl always assume im from china or korea. it gets me pissed its like they think asians dont belong in north america. first answer, yeah i think their ignorant. i dont even look mixed. i shall say i look more korean.
Answer: People say I look Korean and sometimes Japanese even though I am not Both Caucasian, Chinese and even Korean people say I look Korean so I think its funny and actually take it as a compliment. I had a Japanese guy talk to me in Japanese and I was like what???, Im not Jap, lol. For me, its kind of entertaining and amusing. It makes you think about your ancestors and maybe they had some ties to other countries, which may affected your appearance.

Chinese symbol for "relentless" as in unyielding or headstrong or "fight" verb?
I am a recent cancer survivor and I was hoping to get a tattoo to commemorate this fact. I am having some trouble finding these symbols online, as I am unsure of the accuracy of translators etc... If someone of ethnicity could please help me out, that would be great The symbol I found for "relentless" is this: ç‹ And as for "fight", I did find this one, however, I dont know if its for the noun or the verb Id like the one for the verb to fight: 挌 Please let me know if either of these are correct/acceptable, because, if possible, Id like to have just one symbol and a lot that Im seeing are at least two characters Thanks
Answer: There is a chinese blog site about chinese symbol tattoos. you may visit http://www.chinesesymboltattoos.net
