3. What are some examples of propaganda in modern society?
Is propaganda a problem today? Is it milder than how it was say fifty years ago? What do you think about modern propaganda? Any examples?
Answer: Propaganda: the spreading of ideas, facts, or allegations to deliberately further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause. By their very nature, politicians engage in propaganda so to object to a politician's lies is like complaining that your baby pooped in his diaper. The citizen, rather than complain, must be informed to separate the lies and half truths from the facts. Heinous propaganda is that practiced by purported news agencies to further their owners' agendas. Techniques used >attacking the opponent instead of the views or facts spoken by him/her: "obama is a muslim" >unrelenting repetition: the same words or phrase over and over till they sink in as truth: "cram health care down America's throat" >repeated linking of words that by themselves are not related, until their continued repetition links the two concepts together: "tax and spend liberal" (google US deficit history an you will see that democratic presidents preside by the lower and sometimes the lowest deficits and republicans have produced the highest all the way back to Truman) >appeal to fear: I think we say a lot of that during the bush years regarding terrorists and which president was best able to fight them and Cheney continues the same old chime. >appeal to hate: republicans and their supporting pundits put immigration reform as the most pressing need to take attention away from so many pressing an ignored problems of the bush era. Yes, it's a problem but does come close to many of the others. >create false issues to take attention away from a main issue and discredit the opposition, example is the Obama birth certificate non issue made and still being made into an issue. Other manifestations of propaganda include flag waving (relying on listeners patriotism), linking a fact to a hated group so the fact becomes as hated as the group, ....and the list goes on. Keep a note pad handy while watch fox news, and count how many you can spot in a "news" cast. I'll be surprised if it's less than 100 in a 60 min "news" program. What a great experiment for all you social science majors out there, Fox, MSNBC, etc. To answer your question, the answer is yes it is a problem. A president (actually his staff) has to spend time to show the news media his birth certificate when a bunch of naive and gullible group is easily manipulated into believing an absurdity, take center stage, redirecting attention from our real problems needing solutions. It's much worse now. Because of 24 hr news we see the minute by minute accounts of the back and forth in a political process. (like watching a surgery with all the little things that go wrong we blame and shift positions when in fact, in the end the surgery is a success) Rupert Murdock via his media outlets has caused a lot of damage to our democratic processes and society's ability to come together to solve problems.

4. why do I have to pretend I'm dumb for a guy to like me?
I'm okay looking.. I get hit on .. so I know I must be okay looking.. but here's my question and situation all in one. When I act like myself which is intelligent ( whatever that means, intelligence can't be really measured) on a society standard level.. and express opinions or ask questions or inquire into the mind's of the men I'm dating.. the end result is that they get turned off and stop calling me. I'm just be normal though! I speak them on an equal level and discuss real issues and topics on a global scale as well as a philosophical scale. This is apparently not working! When I tried an experiment and acted a bit "dumb" what I mean by that is acted like I didn't know what they were talking about or didn't have strong inquisitions or opinions and acted like I knew nothing about anything.. they really were all over me?? What gives?? Do we women have to compromise our intelligence and capabilities to be liked by men? Any insight male and female.. Also I'm serious.. I'm in no way a biyatch or someone who is arrogant.. I'm just talking about 2 different extremes and curious as to why one is dominating the dating scene over the other. I'm 26 btw dating between 27-33 Thank you for reading and taking the time to answer.
Answer: Most guys can't handle a woman being smarter than them. It crushes their poor ego haha. I personally find it a big turn on when someone I'm interested in shows themselves to be intelligent. Don't pretend to be dumb... that sounds like something that would be good in high school but not in the real adult world. There's gotta be guys who are confident and secure enough in themselves that they won't be put off by your intelligence, there's bound to be a bunch of guys that would find it a positive that you're very capable. It just seems like the guys you've been talking to can't handle how smart you are.. It must make them feel inferior or hurt their pride or something

6. If Hinduism was the second largest religion worldwide, what would society be like?
There are over 2.5 billion Christians, 1.5 billion Muslims, 1.1 billion Atheists worldwide according to most stats. Now if Hinduism was the second largest religion worldwide, what would society be like?
Answer: I have made a few Hindu friends online and they are wonderful. Granted I cannot speak for all members of this belief, but they don't force people to follow what they do. My friends tell me they love Jesus, they like going to church and celebrating Christmas with their Christian friends. They respect women and men should never make women cry. These are HUGE differences from Islamic beliefs of husbands can beat their wives and don't act like the infidels by celebrating their holidays. I can easily imagine less wars, bombings and beheadings if Hinduism was the 2nd largest religion.
