Should I attempt to major in something that is hard for me?
Im a C average student and already have a degree in transportation cause I like to travel. I really want to be like MacGyver, an independent free-lancing jack-of-all-trades and not tied down as an 8-5 worker for some company. I like hands on learning and practical skills that I can use in the real world - unlike history & literature I know how to read already. Im intimidated by the Sciences most of all bio, inorganic and organic chem, physics. A lot of it goes over my head cause I cant relate it to much yet, but was wondering if I should push myself and try to get a degree in it because its intimidating? Another question is, what could I possibly do with a science degree afterward? Spending money on it is not a big factor because Im eligible for both 1a full scholarship in a degree program or technical certificate program, and 2 a full scholarship for into medical school the sciences incl. The med school is a bit of a downer cause of the time it takes - 7.5 years.

Answer: I think the actual purpose of higher education is to refine and add to present skills so that one can better do what one wants to spend the next few decades "doing for a living." Thus, if you think walking around and being able to work in any country is a good idea, then becoming and M.D. is worth the 7.5 years. Actually, you could go to Oral Roberts University, get your M.D., and then theyll send you to a 3rd world nation for two years as part of your contract. Sounds like a good plan from here. It only sounds like a bummer or a downer if one thinks one will be dead by 30. If you think you have the average American male lifespan, add half a century to that. Female? Even more Go forward Move ahead Try to detect it Its not too late to Whip it Whip it good

What are the possible legal ways to immigrate to the USA concerning my case?
I am 26. I was born in Tunisia where Ive been living all my life. I am a professional visual artist and I am also a teacher of English. I graduated with a Masters degree in English Literature in Tunisia. I am a very talented and visionary artist and many great Tunisian artists that I met are willing to write me letters of recommendations. I want to immigrate to the US because: I am no longer a Muslim. I am fed up of the corruption and hypocrisy in every aspect of life in this country. I want more opportunities to improve my artistic and literary skills and talents. I want to improve my life in general and enjoy more individual freedom such as the freedom of thought and belief. I believe in America as the most democratic, civilized, and free nation in the world and I support it. Is it possible for me to immigrate Legally to the US? Thank you for your precious time and advice.

Answer: Pick a visa There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US: 1 Marriage or engagement in anticipation of marriage to a US citizen. 2 You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. H visas 3 You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category 2 above.L visas 4 You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship. 5You own or buy business does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green cardYou must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k more the better bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum E-2 visas 6You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. EB-5 visas 7You have a close relative mother, father, brother, sister and no further who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years? 8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation 9THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you. The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean except Degrees it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this www.wes.org .. But if you are getting a visa under 2 above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©

High school senior in need of assistance?
I need help finding a college I only ask for a school big into sports and traditions. Also, I need a study abroad program and a school of education. I am already applying to Notre Dame, UNC-Chapel Hill, Providence College, and UCONN. I have a 4.0, 29 on the ACT and 1840 on SAT Reasoning. On the SAT Subjects, I have a 660 in US History and a 670 in Literature. I have over 130 hours of community service in various organizations, am in the Italian Club, captain of the girls swim team second year in a row, manager of the boys swim team, world champion of Irish dance qualifier, among other things. My number one and two are UND and UNC-CH, respectively, but I really need some acceptable safeties. I am not from North Carolina, which is why my scores are probably too low, in case you are wondering.

Answer: Wow you have like the same stuff as me. I got a 1850 on SAT, 29 on ACT, have 4.0, 670 in Chem, 730 in US History, in German Club, Captain of Tennis team, lots of community service among other things. Sorry for that. For my safeties, I am choosing my state school, which is University of Tennessee. I dont know what state you are from, but usually state schools are the best back-up. If you are from Connecticut, I think UCONN might be your back-up, right? But for other schools, it really just depends on what you are majoring. Youre good enough to get into the Honors College for some schools such as UT, FSU, Alabama, and Auburn. For back-ups, you can choose University of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson, etc. Im not sure too much about Northern Schools, but these Southern Schools are really my back-ups for W&M, Vandy, and UVA.

What should the two main characters in my novel be?
Im writing a novel about this girl who just turned 16 in chapter 3. The antagonist is trying to kid nap her and use her for a plot of world domination in a parallel world. I think Im going to have him a some sort of demon, but Im not sure what to have the girl be or the other guy that shell meet later on in either chapter 5 or 6. I was thinking of using an elf for the girl and maybe a neko for the guy? Itd be different than whats known in American literature, thats why Im considering the neko. Does anyone else have any suggestions on what I should use? Id appreciate it

Answer: How about the guy trying to kidnap her is actually human... but shes a demon? The other guy could be a cat-dude if you mean nekomata, but he could probably be anything.

Am I taking the right classes to get into JHU?
Im a home schooled sophomore right now. Will my current course load impress Johns Hopkins University? English World History II World History III Geometry Algebra II Spanish III German I Health IT Computer Class Integrated Physics II American Literature

Answer: Yes thats very impressive not only to JHU but to many other Universities. Most students only take about 6-8 classes per semester or year and here you are taking almost half as many. Also some students dont take some of these classes until a higher grade level. What will also impress Universities are extra- curricular activities, clubs, and community service. Continue to strive and make yourself be noticed from other people. It sounds like youre doing great, just a little word of advice, dont do too much that you cant handle.

Dependency Override FAFSA?
I really want to go to College but I am having trouble getting any financial aid. Here is a short background of my situation. I grew up in an emotionally and physically abusive family. I was the second oldest of 7 so whenever my parents would go on their abusive sprees I would try and stand up for my brothers/sisters and in turn I would become my parents target for abuse. I took a lot of abuse from my parents because I could not stand hearing the yells and shrieks of my brothers and sisters it just tore my heart apart. And what made it worse is that when my parents used to beat my brothers/sisters they would yell at them to shut the "f" up and you would just see them quivering trying not to make a squeak. I cried myself to sleep many times. When it came to my abuse it was always generally on a much worse scale because I was older than my brothers/sister, I only had an older sister. My father would use his fists on me, he would punch me in the skull, chest or anywhere that struck his fancy. Sometimes he would just grab what was at hand, be it rubber tubing, rubber jump rope or even once a metal pipe. Because of what I went through, from very early on I was socially awkward, I just did not know how to interact with people. This coupled with the fact that my parents only allowed me to be friends with Russian people nationalist parents sealed my fate at being a social reject. My parents also prohibited me from reading any English literature but I used to sneak in books anyways and immerse myself in a world where everything was different. At the age of 17 my parents abandoned me, that puts it lightly, my dad was drunk and he needed to take out his anger on the world at someone so he grabbed me and unleashed a fury of punches and blow on me, then threw me out on the street with nothing more than $2.75 in my pocket in change. I walked about 10 miles to my friends house and used his phone to call my grandparents who lived on the other side of the country, they quickly bought me a plane ticket. My friend drove me to the airport and I slept there until the morning and took the plane to Massachusetts originally coming from the state of Washington. So now I am 18 and cannot fill out the FAFSA because of my social situation I always kept everything inside and never told anyone about this. Therefore I cannot get a letter written by a teacher or counselor or anyone like that. I also cant fill it out with my parents information because well they will not give it to me and I do not want to talk to them because of the circumstances. What should I do and how should I get to college? I had a bright future ahead of me I was doing well in highschool. But once I got thrown out of my home I was forced to get a GED because my parents would not give my grandparents gaurdianship rights, and going through court was useless because I was already 3 months away from being 18 years old. I did score very well on my GED though ranking in the top tenth percentile in the state of Mass and I got a 1950 on my SAT. I just really want to go to college as it is something I have always worked for. I want to go into aeronautical engineering. So is there any way I can still get financial aid or am I doomed to never go to college?

Answer: I think you need to have your grandparents help you and be your advocate and stand beside you and support and talk to your parents regarding this matter on your behalf. They can AGAIN talk to your parents to ask them again for their tax info so you can get free money to go to school. ALSO be aware that SOMEONE at your old school new you suddenly stopped attending and some explanation as to why you never came back should/would have been delivered to them.... so you must retrace your steps with your grandparents and parents to find out who they/you contacted regarding you dropping out. Even if its the secretary at the HS... someone would have been told. Your friend you walked to that night would have told someone at the school. Im sure someone went around asking. Also, you need to be fully aware that applying for fin aid is NOT the same thing as "going to college". You are an able bodied adult now fully capable of working and holding down a job. Many community colleges are CHEAP and lots of folks attend part time while working full time. If you cant convince your grandparents to speak on your behalf and get you free money AND YOU WILL GET IT IF YOU HAVE 6 SIBLINGS and your parents dont make much money then you CAN take out federal Unsub Stafford loans without your parents income. so all is not lost. They would have to write a letter to the schools fin aid office saying they dont support you in any way and are not going to contribute to your education at all. Good luck... your grandparents have more power than you think.

how important is the work of the translator in world literature?

Answer: extremely important ive done an extensive presentation on the problems of literary translation, and to be quite frank, translating is an elusive field where there will inevitably be things lost in translation, and translators themselves are always caught in a dilemma of beauty vs. faithfulness. they say translation is like a woman.. it can be either beautiful or faithful but not at the same time. so for translators to overcome this burden in a constantly changing, globalizing world, they will need to be hired in thousands to share knowledge with everyone

Which Ivy League school should I add as a reach? Transfer Student?
Im entering my 3rd year of college in less than a month and Ive started applying for transfer admission via the common application website, even though I dont intend to finish the application for several months. Im an ethnic minority Puerto Rican. I spent my first of college at a decent liberal arts college in NY where I had a 3.59 GPA. I spent last year at a community college where I had a 3.83 GPA only because I had a B- in General Chemistry, otherwise I would have had a 4.0 easily. I took GC to challenge myself So if you do the math, my combined GPA is around a 3.72-3.73 through 58 credits. Im planning to double major in English and History. The lowest grade I have in any English/History course was an A- in World Literature my freshman year. Anyway, at community college, I had myself signed into a lot of higher level English classes and Ive taken classes all across the liberal arts curriculum. The only classes Ive avoided like the plague are any math courses above Algebra II and any higher level science/computer science courses. Because Ive taken so many classes, the only classes left to take this year at community college are the 100 level courses I skipped over. Assuming I get a 4.0 over the next 31-32 credits like I should, which Ivy League school should I apply to as a reach? My SAT scores from HS arent there 1900/2400, 600 Reading, 580 Math, 720 Writing and I graduated 36/278 because I was an underachiever and had some domestic issues. I was thinking Id apply to Penn, Columbia or Cornell. I know Im applying to Northwestern, Rice, UVA, UNC, Georgetown and Notre Dame. What Ive heard so far is that the only schools Ill be able to transfer into are UVA and UNC because theyre state schools and accepting of accomplished community college students unlike the other schools. Can someone here give me a bit of guidance?

Answer: i think cornell would be your best shot of the ivies. uva and unc chapel hill are also difficult to get into, so i would add some more schools to your list. add bu, northeastern, nyu also a slight reach, but still, and vanderbilt great school with high transfer acceptance rate to your list.

What job should I get if I like Fashion and Eng. Literature?
I looove reading. I was thinking for a while that I should be an English teacher. But before that idea, I wanted to pursue a career in the Fashion industry. I read Seventeen, and Teen Vogue all the time, and I mix and match pieces of my clothing to make an outfit I saw in a magazine. I always loved the fashion world. I realized today that maybe I should do something that involves both. What jobs are there that involve reading/writing and fashion?

Answer: Perhaps you should study journalism and fashion design as a double major, and try to get a job writing for a fashion magazine.
