what would you choose for an ice sculpture?
Im not a huge fan of ice sculptures, but its included at the venue for free. What should I pick? I dont like the normal swan or heart or whatever things. Its a garden wedding so i was thinking maybe a tree or a flower, but I dunno. What should we have them make? They say they can do almost anything.

Answer: I know you dont like hearts but you should see if they can do a heart and then a flower in the middle or do a tree and then see if they can carve your initials in it

what kind of clay stays soft until your ready to harden it?
Im looking to make a sculpture out of clay. It may take a few days so it would have to be a clay that stays soft in room temperature then when ready, be hardened. Which I then will make a mold of rubber, to then poor plastic resin in.

Answer: Modeling clay/plasticine,which always stays soft, is fine to use for mold making. And it isnt necessary for it to harden to make a mold. Modeling clay may stiffen but does not really get hard or dry out.

Need project idea for THE ALCHEMIST BY PAUL COELHO?
I need an idea for a physical representation for the book The Alchemist by Paul Coelho. If you read it, could you give me an idea? I cant think of anything By physical representation, I mean a painting/drawing/sculpture/photo anything, but i cant draw or paint so thats out, and besides, I want something REALLY creative. It has to have something to do with some idea/moment/relationship in the book. Please help

Answer: I suppose if you could do something representing a dream, as Santiagos dream of treasure in Egypt is what sets him off on his personal journey and really what the whole book is about. I am also not a creative sort all I can think of is using paper mache to make a map of Egypt with treasure on it, then maybe cotton wool underneath to show the clouds representing the dream he had. Sorry may be no use of all, as I said Im not creative. Good lcuk.

I Know this many be a popular question but ...?
I am wandering if anyone can suggest any pieces of art for my Sleeve Tattoo. I like japanese mythological art taking inspiration from Matt Heafys tattoo depicting the Samurai Watanabe no Tsuna killing the demon Ibaragi Oni however i would like something more close to my heritage but sticking to theme of mythology. Im from Scotland so any pieces of European or Scottish mythology art or sculpture. But it needs to be only a background meaning because within this tattoo i am going to incorporate small meanings that are close to me, for example a picture or phrase for every person that means something special and is close to me. Btw if you think this is a good idea please say. : Thanks for any help. -Marc

Answer: Im just here to say, I absolutely love the idea : I appreciate when a tattoo actually has deep meaning to its holder. : kelpies are Scottish...like Nessie : Also Fachens http://www.rampantscotland.com/features/mythology.htm this has a list of Scottish mythological creatures http://gwion.tripod.com/index21.html I didnt like this link so as much but it had stuff pertaining to Scottish mythology, mostly fairies I think I know nothing about art or sculptures unless I made it. Apologies To Shakespeare?
In the heart of Paris, theres a famous cemetery: Le Pere LaChaise. "Immortals" of music, art and literature are buried there. Its not uncommon to find a man or a women playing on a keyboard beside the tomb of Chopin, or you might see someone sitting by the graveside of Proust, reading from "La Recherche du Temps Perdu". And the kisses of adoring women have painted red the tombstone of Oscar Wilde . These adoring, time-lost wanderers will forever be deleriously in love with the Immortals and their works. Among the granite tombstones and the marble sculptures populating the cemetery, lovers can be seen kissing. A photo of this caught my eye, suggesting the following words: Chez le Pere LaChaise, domicile des inmortals, Gods and goddesses of timeless stone roam leaf-shaded lanes, where capricious sunlight winks through green canopies and pollen-happy bees search for love among weathered slabs, red with the kisses of adoring women. In the umbra of an aging church-tower, an undulating finger plays across the moss-covered granite slabs, growing from green shadows on the dark, moist earth; and above a faded green-stained bench where two young lovers kiss, the music of courting birds. O Lovers Be not troubled by gods and goddesses who challenge time’s sluttish rule with impervious stone. Death and Love? When one is, so may yet live the other. Robt. O

Answer: I wouldnt apologize to Shakespeare because what you are doing is something utterly different than what he did, and hes long gone regardless LOL Let me begin by saying that I love the premise of what you are doing; I feel this piece like few others Ive read here. That being said, and despite its poetic language, I do not think this is a poem in any conventional sense because its underlying base of rhythm is that of prose, well-written prose And yet, your language, the phonology of the piece and its rich imagery and rhetorical structure, mark this as something above common prose. This is that rarest of things, a fine prose poem. You have a gift for writing in this idiom; thank you for sharing this piece.

How can I set up some sculptures of my own at the local Park?
I Live close to a park and attend a local art school. I want to set up a team of Students interesting in sculpture, do some works and set them up on the park permanently. Who do i have to talk to to do this?

Answer: You have to talk to the parks department of your city. Not quite sure how likely they are to allow a permanent installation - after all you are not planning commissioned work, but apparently a random selection of works, but doing a temporary show may work.

Creative ideas for a over-the-summer school project?
was asked to read The Alchemist by Paul Coelho and then made to create a physical representation of my favorite relationship, idea or moment from the novel and I cant think of ANYTHING. I really need help. It would be amazing if you had read this book, but I doubt Ill get that lucky, so if I could have some ideas based on any of the following quotes from the book. By a physical representation, it could be a drawing/sculpture/painting or ANYTHING else that isnt like an essay or literary. But keep in mind, I cannot draw or paint to save my LIFE Thats why creative ideas would be best. 1. "When someone sees the same people everyday, as had happened with him at the seminary, they wind up becoming a part of that persons life. And then they want the person to change. If someone isnt what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own." 2. " Whats the worlds greatest lie, the boy asked, completely surprised. The man replied It is this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what is happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. Thats the worlds greatest lie. " 3. " Your Personal Legend is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to year, for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend. " 4. "The boy was beginning to understand that intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything because its all written there." 5. "Everything on earth is being continuously transformed because the earth is alive.... and it has a soul. We are part of that soul, so we rarely recognize that it is working for us." 6. "Im interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, youll be a happy man. Youll see that there is life in the desert, that there are stars in the heavens, and that tribesmen fight because they are part of the human race. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment were living right now." 7. "When he looked into her dark eyes, and saw that her lips were poised between a laugh and silence, he learned the most important part of the language that all the world spoke- the language that everyone on earth was capable of understanding in their heart. It was love." last one ;...... 8. "I have inside me the winds, the deserts, the oceans, the stars and everything created in the universe. We were all made by the same hand, and we have the same soul."

Answer: Take some photographs and make a graphic novelette.

Where to start with sculpting?
Well at the moment Im very interested in sculpting and have become very fond of the works of the old sculptures and modern sculptures today having visited several sculpture parks my interested has but only grown. What Id like to do now however is to start sculpting myself but I am unsure of what to do or where to start. First of all what would be the best clay to start sculpting. I am not so bothered about beginners clay if such clay does exist but rather go to the clay which would be possibly best for sculpting. I understand that clays may exist which suit different people and please their individual needs but what would be perhaps the best quality of clay? Also out of interest and perhaps for future needs for myself is how a sculpture is made. Say for example, a bronze statue? I know you have to create the model using clay but how are sculptures then made from your model into solid metal statues. And also is there certain tools which I would need to equip myself with in order to start. I have a basic idea of what tools to use but if there are any tools which are very useful it would be great to get that. Or maybe it would perhaps not be the tools as I have only seen the basic tools in order to sculpt but the skill of the sculptor. Thankyou and much appreciated Joe

Answer: Id suggest that you get yourself some modeling clay/plasticine, a clay with oil in it to prevent it from drying out. Sculpting can be approached using two methods, additive and subtractive, Modeling clay will allow you to practice these two methods. For a more subtractive practice use plaster. For small forms use gallon paper milk juice cartons as forms to pour plaster blocks. You can use these blocks to have a try at carving. Use old pocket knives that lock. The reason for using old knives is because the plaster will dull the blade. A very sharp blade isnt really needed in any event. Plaster and modeling clay are both means to more permanent results making molds from anything that you might produce. Personally I found that when I first started sculpting the subtractive methods helped me understand volume and form better than additive methods and in fact improved my understanding of working additively. Michelangelo, believed that the forms he carved were in the stone already all that he had to do was remove the unneeded material that surrounded them.. There is too much to reply to here in such a limited space. So I would suggest a Google search for much of what you are asking. Also spend time looking at the work of various sculptors to develop your visual memory and inspire your thinking. http://www.google.com/search?hl&qBeginning+sculpting&sourceidnavclient-ff&rlz1B3GGLL_enUS383US384&ieUTF-8
