Cannes Film Festival vs The Oscars.?
which one is the most prestigious award ceremony?

Answer: Cannes is far more prestigious than the Oscars. The Oscars is very USA-oriented, giving almost all the awards to American films. There is a special category for foreign films. By contrast, Cannes considers all films equally regardless of country of origin. Cannes is more akin to the Olympics. Cannes will sometimes select an American film, but that American film has beat out submissions from around the world, instead of just other American films

How Dangarous Is It For Americans To Travel In Algeria?
Im planning on going some time, and Ive read some information and am aware of the dangers, but how much of it is true? Is it really dangarous to travel overland? And I knew about the kidnappings, but I thought they were rare incidents. I thought only kidnappings by terrorist groups happend every once in a while. Is it really as common as they say. And I didnt even know about bombings and fake roadblocks. Is it really that dangarous and that bad? I wanted to drive around the country, but after I read that, I might just drive that stretch of coastline east of Algiers to Constantine, and then I might use soem other transportation. I will probably have a group of people with me, so I wouldnt be alone, but I still dont wanna risk the dangers. So what would be the best way to get around besides driving yourself. Okay, which areas are the most dangarous, and which areas should be avoided? Also, I was just wondering out of curiosity, what if you went with a television film crew? Would that increase or descrease your risks of getting kidnapped or ambushed? Heres where I got the information, but how much of it is actualy true? http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1087.html Also any other information about the country such as food, customs, languages, festivals, prices, places to stay, or anything else important would be appreciated. Merci/Shukran

Answer: Not more dangerous than any other westerner traveling in the country.Although Algeria in itself is definitely not the safest country to travel overland.Definitely the worst in northern africa.I knew an algerian whose father was kidnapped while traveling overland, wasnt seen for 2 years.Television film crew wont do anything to your chances,if a group is set on kidnapping foreigners a few more people wont matter.I have not been to algeria in years, but I know for a fact that Kabylie is a particulary dangerous areayou would have to cross this for your algeirs-constantine route. As for the rest of the questions,I do not have time to go over the basis of my culture.I suggest that you go to the library and check out a book on algeria,or just use wikipedia.

Is the film The Last Mistress available in America?
The Last Mistress was a 2007 French-Italian film that was in the Cannes Film Festival. I saw previews for it and I immediately wanted to watch it. However when I went to the library and found that they didnt have it not even by inter-library loan, I was wondering if the film was available in America even since its a foreign film. If it is available, can anyone give me any links or places where I can possibly buy it or watch online. I dont want to download it and please if its websites, make sure they are places that are virus free.

Answer: The Last Mistress is available for viewing online at Amazon.com as part of Video on Demand service. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q01IPO?ieUTF8&tagbasebal-20&linkCodeas2&camp1789&creative390957&creativeASINB001Q01IPO

Should I attend Toronto International Film Festival?
Hello, I’ve never been to TIFF before, but I want to go this year. The ONLY movies I’m interested in are: -Black Swan -Never Let Me Go -Biutiful -Blue Valentine -127 Hours if the rumors are true, it will have its world premiere during TIFF I don’t live in Canada nor in the US, so knowing that, what should I do? Should I buy one of the packages they are offering right now, or should I wait till Aug. 26 when the schedule goes up?? And does each movie have only one projection or more? If they have more, are they distributed during the whole day?? All the projections will take place in different venues I presume, are those venues close to each other? Also, I know several stars and directors will show up to promote their movie, what should I do to see the ones I’m interested in? And is there a Q&A after each screening? If so, is it limited to press or general public can attend? Thanks for all the info beforehand, it’s just I would have to miss school and spend a lot of money and I was wondering if it’s really worth it. And since they’re only 5 films I would love it if it only took 2 to 3 days to finish my schedule and it would be even better if I get to see the Q&A, not so much the red carpet.

Answer: Ive been to it before. Yes there are up to three showings of films. Unfortunately the director and actors usually only go to the first one so if you want to meet/see the people who are responsible for the film, you have to go early. Even with the package, you wont be guaranteed to get into the first viewing. Buy a package. Itll just make it easier especially since you already know which movies you would like to see. The dress code isnt too fancy so for the most part you can go in jeans and shirt. Its worth it if youre into film. If youre just a casual movie goer then no :

What should I do about this?
Background info: Im 15, gonna be a junior in high school. The city I live in had a film festival last week. While at the film festival one night I was working concessions, a cute girl came up to order some food. We flirted for a little bit, and afterwards my friend and I discussed whether or not she was into me. I thought she was cool, and she came back a second time, with her friend who is a family friend that I have never really spoke to, but Im pretty sure we know who eachother is. Anyway, again we flirted for a minute or so and she left. After my shift, I saw her leaving, but I missed my chance and didnt get to ask for her number. I didnt even get her name either. A few days later I saw her a one of the movies, but she was with friends, so I didnt bother going to talk to her, because since I didnt get her name, I thought she might not remember me. What exactly should I do? My only real idea is to contact her friend via facebook Im not facebook friends with her friend, but if I sent a reques, I think shed accept. If I do this, what should I say? Becausse in my opinion, its sort of creepy to ask who she is/what her name is through facebook, so: Should I try to do that? and if so, what should I say? Thanks To clear anything up: go to High School A. The cute girl whose name I dont know goes to High School B The rival high school. The girls friend goes to High school A with me. Shes the grade below me, but we dont really know eachother except our little brothers play baseball together and our dads are friends. Thats how I know who she is. but shes not the girl I wanna get with.

Answer: i dont think its creepy to ask someone on facebook who someone else is.So stop asking the same question and get the heck on facebook and ask

I want to become an indie film maker, where should i move to?
i was thinking seattle, san francisco, los angeles, new orleans, montreal, toronto, new york city, or boston, however, with the economy and me being a poor college student, i dont think the more expensive cities are good ideas. however i want someplace with good opportunities, like film festivals and people interested in film. and places with colleges that offer classes in film production and such. any suggestions?

Answer: My husband is an indie filmmaker, working out of Los Angeles. There are plenty of festivals here, but its very expensive to live in SoCal. For you, I would recommend Austin, Texas, which has become very popular in recent years thanks to SXSW and an eclectic music and film scene.

How does getting tickets to the New York Film Festival work?
I havent been before... can you buy tickets in advance? I really only want to attend one film that will be playing. Anything I should know? Thanks Update: Does anyone know when they go on sale?

Answer: You can get tickets in advance and since you obviously have a particular film you want to see you should get your tickets as soon as possible after the go on sale. Remember that members of The Film Society of Lincoln Center get first chance to buy tickets so you must be quick: http://www.filmlinc.com/nyff/index.html http://www.filmlinc.com
